Chromium and Nickel make it highly corrosion resistant and also excellent resistance to oxidation effects. The vital difference between 309 and 309S is their carbon content. Alloy 309S ahs lesser carbon than 309 and this is why it minimizes the rate of carbide precipitation and enhances weldability.
