Stainless Steel Alloy 440

The Stainless steel 440 type is a hardenable high-carbon chromium which is also known as “razor blade steel”. While passing through the heat treatment, the steel attains the maximum level of hardness. The other properties of the same is :

1. After heating treatment attains highest hardness levels of any grade of stainless steel.
2. It comes in 4 grades – 440A, 440B, 440C, 440F
3. All of them offers good corrosion resistance along with abrasion resistance.
4. Easily machined in their hardened state and also resistant to the mild levels of acids, alkalis, foods, fresh water, and air.
5. The type 440 stainless steel can be easily toughened to Rockwell 58 harness

• Chromium- Up to16-18%
• Magnese- Up to 1%
• Silicon- Up to 1%
• Molybdenum- Up to 0.75%
• Phosphorus- Up to 0.04%
• Sulfur- Up to 0.03%
• Carbon- Between 0.6-0.75%

Type 440B

• C 0.75-0.95%

Type 440C and 440F

• C 0.95-1.20%
